Builth Wells 14 - 7 Maesteg Quins

Builth Wells 14 – 7 Maesteg Quins

After a narrow 8-7 defeat away to Ystalyfera two weeks ago, in a game which arguably should not have been played due to atrocious conditions, Builth returned to winning ways beating Maesteg Quins at home.

The hosts got off to a perfect start when Man of the Match Neil Jarman touched down within the opening 5 minutes. Seb Barrett missed the conversion and a penalty early on, Quins also missing a strike at goal. With Builth piling on pressure in the first half, Barrett eventually slotted two penalties. Maesteg finally got off the mark just before half time, with a converted try, well into stoppage time. The score at the break 11-7.

The visitors failed to take advantage of superior territory and possession in the second half, continually coming up a huge defensive effort from the home side. The only points coming once again from the boot of Barrett. Quins could have scored having intercepted a loose pass but scrambled defence and a great tackle by winger Tom Davies saving a certain equalizing score. Final score 14-7. Builth continue their climb up the table.

Builth travel to fifth place Seven Sisters on Saturday 30th January 2016
