Kenfig Hill 41 - Builth 15

Kenfig Hill, Sat 5th Sep 2015 KO: 1.30

After a superb pre-season victory over big spending Merthyr Tydfil, the Bulls season started with a trip to Kenfig Hill on Saturday and confusion on the team sheet with Builth fielding two Dan Oakleys, in the second row. Builth started well but it was the home team who stuck first with an unconverted try after 10 minutes, (5-0) very much against the run of play. The two teams then traded penalties, the first Builth score coming from the boot of Jack Barrett (5-3) and Kenfig Hill missing theirs. It was not long to wait before the next try, pace from the Kenfig Hill back line saw them cross again twice in quick succession under the posts, both scores easily converted (19-3). A fourth would have followed but for a forward pass.

Kenfig Hill retained the ball from the restart and the visitors were finding the opposition backs difficult to handle at this point in the game, Rhys Davies making a try saving tackle but the Mules managed to recycle the ball, another certain score but for another forward pass. Not to be denied, another converted try followed soon after for the Kenfig Hill no. 11.

Half time score : 26-3

The second half started with a couple of substitutions for Builth, Ryan Wheeler coming on for Kyle Baggott on the wing and Alex Brown on for Dan Oakley (no. 4) with a dislocated finger. Builth were camped in the home side 22 and repeated infringements resulted in a Dan Oakley (no.5) score 15 minutes into the second half. A well taken conversion struck by Barrett. (26-10).

The visiting support were hopeful for a second half comeback but hope was short lived as the home side crossed the line twice more. The Kenfig Hill winger Graban now on a hat-trick of tries. (31-10).Builth, again good from the restart were soon back on the attack and a brilliant offload from Captain Ben Pugh saw Dan Oakley score his second try unconverted only to have Kenfig Hill reply immediately with their sixth and final try of the game.

Final Score 41-15
