Builth 17 – 22 Ystalyfera.

Bulls miss out on home win

Builth Wells and Ystalyfera served up an entertaining, sometimes ill-tempered encounter to whet the appetite for Wales massive game against England that evening.

The home team made the early running in a lively first half and took the lead 10 minutes in with a well taken drive over try scored by open side flanker and captain Ben Pugh. Gavin Jones converted having put an earlier penalty just wide. Jones soon added to his tally in the first half with a penalty directly in front of the posts.

Builth were rapidly on the attack again but a loose pass saw the Ystalyfera number 19 kick the ball deep into the Builth half where centre Tom Davies did well collecting the ball under pressure. An off the ball incident temporarily halted play and resulted in yellow for Builth winger Ryan Wheeler. Down to 14 men Builth conceded a try which went unconverted. Half time score 10-5.

The Bulls made a couple of changes at the start of the second half. Rhys Field replacing Aiden Luxton in the front row and Dave Rampley on for an injury to Dan Oakley. Lucas Evans also made a welcome return from injury late on.

The visitors enjoyed much more possession from the off and a good break early on, sent their scrum half in for what was a certain score but for a try saving tackle from the Builth full back Gethin Lewis. Ystalyfera piled on the pressure and not to be denied, the visitors were able to cross the Builth try line twice in ten minutes and added a forth try later, capitalising from a miss-firing lineout.  A yellow card late on this time for the Ystalyfera loose head, enabled Builth to this time take advantage with a score late on for Stephen Boore. Gavin Jones adding the extras.

Final score Builth Wells 17 – 22 Ystalyfera.
